Drinking Cultures Around the World (English)

As we find many different traditions and cultures around the world, we find that drinking cultures also differ depending on traditions and regions of the World.

People in different countries drink at different times of the day and for different reasons.
In China we find that two weeks before their New Year there is an increase in drinking. This is part of the tradition of celebration and feasting to celebrate the New Year. These drinking sessions are shared with friends and family and are not limited to a specific type of alcohol.
In France it is customary to drink red wine with dinner. Being one of the biggest wine producers in the world, the French are very specific and serious about their wine culture. Wine is considered to be healthy for the heart in addition to being a great way to accompany a meal! White wine is also a popular drink in France and usually associated with white meat. French tradition stipulates that we take sweet white wine with white meats and dry red wine with red meat.
Beer has become a big part of drinking cultures in many European countries. This trend has especially increased in the youth as beer has become cheaper and more easily accessible. With the amount of drinking that is being done by youth this has now earned the term 'binge drinking'! We find there is no day, time or reason needed to drink when one is binge drinking and it is usually in very large quantities at a time.
Russia is well known for its famous Vodka. It is consumed regularly and usually taken without any dilution. Rumor has it that the reason Vodka is so popular in Russia is because of the extreme cold weather conditions! It helps people to keep warm. It is acceptable to drink Vodka in Russia at any time of the day. It also a drink that is becoming increasingly popular in many countries across the world especially among the youth.
As the years go by and cultures and traditions continue to integrate their drinking cultures will in turn continue to change.
